Silver Springs

Silver Springs

Description:

Silver Springs is advertised as “Nature’s Theme Park”, and it’s just that. There is no swimming, scuba, or snorkeling allowed here, it’s strictly a “look only” type of place. Silver Springs is probably the most famous spring in Florida and is one of the largest springs in the world by volume, producing around 550 million gallons of water per day. Over 20 movies and TV shows have been filmed in the park because of it’s spectacular water clarity, including the original Tarzan and James Bond underwater scenes.

Some of the best attractions here are the glass bottom boat rides and the lighthouse “ride”, which takes you 80 feet above the river for a great view. The Fort King River Cruise is great for the history buff, as it walks you through 10,000 years of history at this site. There is also the Jeep Safari ride that takes you through the jungle area where you will see wild monekys. They have been living in and near the park since the 1930s, brought by a person who ran a jungle cruise attraction where the park sits today.

There are also several wildlife displays, such as live alligators, bears, giraffes, etc. The park is very well landscaped and overall a great place to visit. Silver River State Park is about a half mile south of the SR-35 entrance to Silver Springs, and offers 15 miles of hiking trails.
